ESBL are Gram-negative bacteria that produce an enzyme; beta-lactamase that has the ability to break down commonly used antibiotics by hydrolysis. Infections caused by ESBL usually affect the urinary tract and gastro intestinal tract. They can also infect surgical wounds and may also cause septicemia. ESBL is mainly spread among people in hospitals and long-term care facilities, the main objective of the review is focus on ESBL producing bacteria and its prevention of transmission. The main aim of this review is to provide factual information regarding ESBL producing bacteria to health care worker especially to nurses who are working in hospital.
